Datos IO is exhibiting at the enormously popular AWS re:Invent in Las Vegas. With 40,000+ attendees, this has certainly become the ‘must attend’ cloud event. Here are several takeaways from Day 1:
- AWS is the clear leader in cloud today. In his exclusive interview with The Cube, AWS president Andy Jassy discussed the last numbers they reported; $18 billion revenue run rate growing 42 percent year over year! Additionally, if you look at estimates from Gartner, they estimate that AWS’s business is several times the size of the next 14 providers combined. No matter how you slice it, that’s phenomenal! You can read the complete interview with Andy here.
- The big battle ground is for enterprise clients. Based upon the AWS keynotes, sessions, our conversations at the booth, and from chatting with our booth neighbors, it’s clear that enterprises are moving rapidly to the cloud and looking for enterprise functionality in the cloud. Typical attendees stopping by the Datos IO booth were from a small, medium, or large enterprises.
- Enterprise backup and recovery is a key pillar of any cloud strategy. As more cloud-native applications originate in the cloud and traditional applications are ported to the cloud, organizations need, and are asking for, enterprise backup and recovery. There will always be education required but it was validating and encouraging to hear so many customers recognizing the need to protect their data in the cloud.
- It’s an increasingly non-relational world. MongoDB had a very strong presence at the show and many of the customers we spoke with have already deployed, or are in the process of deploying modern applications on non-relational databases like MongoDB, Cassandra, and DynamoDB. Put another way, there was clear sense that traditional relational databases are not the preferred platform for cloud applications.
Given our focus on delivering data-aware, cloud backup and recovery it was a fantastic day overall. Now, I have just enough time to rest up and do it all over again tomorrow.
Come on by booth #2825, we’d love to chat!
