“Big breakthroughs typically follow a seven-step path: First, no one’s heard of you. Then they’ve heard of you but think you’re nuts. Then they understand your product, but think it has no opportunity. Then they view your product as a toy. Then they see it as an amazing toy. Then they start using it. Then they couldn’t imagine life without it.”
2016 was a stellar year for all of us here at Datos IO. We went GA with our first product RecoverX 1.0, won the confidence of our first ten customers within six months of GA including deployments on leading public cloud platforms, and seeded new GTM partnerships with public cloud platforms from Google and Amazon. But we’re just getting started and over the coming weeks we’re going to making some exciting announcements that further cement our leadership in helping organizations protect, mobilize, and monetize their data at scale.
But before we talk about the what, let’s talk about the why. There are monumental fast-paced changes occurring happening in enterprise environments, with mission-critical cloud applications being “born” in the cloud, while at the same time enterprises are moving their traditional applications to the cloud. As a result, enterprise infrastructure now consists of multiple clouds (public, private and hybrid) in separate distributed geographies, but all connected over multiple networking links. Since each cloud uses different infrastructure, the only common denominator is the “data” itself. However, if we look closely, every cloud uses unique and distinct technologies to provide infrastructure services to applications. As a result, the only common tie that binds all the clouds together is the “data” itself which does not change representation across VMWare, AWS and Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud.
This is precisely why our founding principle was to develop the world’s first application-centric data management architecture purpose built for the cloud era; we call our architecture “Consistent Orchestrated Distributed Recovery (CODR)”. The core principle of the Datos IO CODR architecture is a scalable application-centric view of data management that distinguishes it from legacy media-server, LUN-based, VM-based approaches. The benefit of our application-centric approach is that it not only addresses the most business critical use case of backup and recovery but also enables us to deliver rich data management services including mobility, analytics, security, and versioning. These services are the ‘secret sauce’ that will enable us to deliver incredible new capabilities and products to our customers, which brings us to today.
So, that’s why we do what we do. Now, let’s talk about the what. As we head into 2017, we’re going to continue revolutionizing the data management world by introducing exciting new solutions in a few key areas:
- Applications, Applications, Applications – it’s all about the application, so we’re going to expand our support for non-relational databases and introduce new disruptive technologies for relational databases so everyone can take advantage of the benefits of CODR.
- Any-Cloud Data Mobility – in a multi-cloud world, your data must be mobile, so we are going to introduce data mobility capabilities so customers can backup anywhere (to one or multiple clouds), recover anywhere (on-premise or in the public cloud) & migrate anywhere (to the cloud, within the cloud, from the cloud).
- Any Server, Any Cloud, Any Storage – we’ll be delivering new solutions based upon partnerships with leading infrastructure technologies, enterprise storage platforms, hyper-converged systems, as well as a growing list of public cloud platforms.
It is our mission to surprise and delight our customers, and we are proud to say that over the past 3 years, Datos IO has built a truly revolutionary product in response to the inflection point of a cloud-first world. Rapid customer adoption has validated our efforts and we’re excited to continue this journey and exceed customers’ expectations.
At Datos IO, we are rebels, we break with the norm and we focus on what we believe in. We can’t wait to continue disrupting the market, delivering industry-first products, all to help our customers embrace the cloud-first imperative with confidence.
