Storage Switzerland Chalk Talk Video
Applications are being born in the cloud, moving to the cloud, and becoming more distributed in nature. With that, traditional data protection architecture for these new applications is inefficient for the following reasons that are explained in this video from Storage Switzerland’s Curtis Preston, aka Mr. Backup.
- Scale-Out Data Protection Architecture: Traditional, media-server architecture worked well in the past, given that data sets were small and applications were deployed in on-premise environments.
- Elasticity Is A Must-Have: Cloud infrastructure is built to scale-up and scale-down based on application requirements. However, traditional data protection has not evolved to leverage this elasticity.
- Deduplication Needs To Be Reinvented: In traditional architecture, you had block-level deduplication, which does not work for distributed applications and non-relational databases.
